VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE WEATHER STATION

AUTOMATIC WEATHER STATION - RAINFALL SENSOR

The automatic weather station employs a very accurate optical rainfall sensor. Rainwater entering the aperture at the top of the sensor is channelled through an optical beam which records the number of drops passing through. This is then translated into a rainfall amount every 15 minutes. The operation of the sensor is monitored carefully against both standard Met Office raingauges and a tipping bucket raingauge.
