WEATHER REPORT FOR 1977
| A white New year in the form of snow showers.Frozen snow covered the ground for the first three or four days, before wet and milder weather | |||||||||||||
| cleared it. January was very average, but there were several northerly snaps of cold weather, particularly during the last four days which had frost | |||||||||||||
| and snow. The snow lay for the few days of February which was generally unsettled and a wet month. | |||||||||||||
| A very mild airstream from Africa moved across the country in early March and the month remained mild until the last few days which had some | |||||||||||||
| sharp night frosts. Sunny periods and showers brought a traditional start to April, the last three days were also traditional, but between was a | |||||||||||||
| combination of sunshine, rain, wind and below average temperatures. | |||||||||||||
| The cool unsettled weather in April continued into May and then changed to become warm and sunny, this weather extended into the first week of | |||||||||||||
| June. That concludes the summer of 1977. June was in fact one of the coldest,dullest Junes of this century. There were some warm days in July , | |||||||||||||
| which was a dry month, but it never really came upto expectations. | |||||||||||||
| August was something of a holiday-makers nightmare with several periods of continuous rain and too few days of warmth and sunshine. Overall | |||||||||||||
| temperatures for the summer of 1977 were, not surprisingly, below average. September was also rather cool, though there were several mainly | |||||||||||||
| sunny days. | |||||||||||||
| Mild, would best describe october. Other features included, persisting fog in the middle of the month and a mixture of sunny periods of continuous | |||||||||||||
| rain for the rest of the month. The mild weather lasted until the middle of November and the it suddenly turned cold, although many days had long | |||||||||||||
| sunny intervals. Mild conditions returned in December, but so did the rain and the year ended rather damp. | |||||||||||||
