WEATHER REPORT FOR 1975

January was dominated with continuous westerly weather which
gave very mild conditions throughout. A thundery trough on the 12th
caused some severe whirlwinds in the County. There was a snowfall on
the 28th. February, like January was dull, but it was cooler with a spell
of easterly winds.
The dull weather continued through March, which was a wet month.
Very mild for the first week or so, a colder spell then set in which extended
into April. April sported a few of the traditional showers in the second
week, many of which fell as snow.
May was another cool month. There was a sharp frost during the
night of the 30th. Snow fell on the 2nd of June, which despite the wintery
start, turned out to be a dry and sunny month.
There was sunshine on nearly every day in July, which was very
warm, becoming quite hot towards the end. There were intermittent
outbreaks of thundery rain, torrential at times, some of which caused
serious flooding.
August was not as thundery as July, but it had an exceptional
heatwave during the first fortnight. It became generally cooler during
the second half of the month.
September was cool, unsettled with prolonged periods of rain and
proved to be the last wet month for a very long time. October, November,
and December were variable, though generally average, except that they
were dry.
