WEATHER REPORT FOR 1971

The year started with a few dry days although there was little
sunshine. January was generally dull, with above-average rainfall, it
was also mild with several foggy mornings. Very little snow fell in January
or February, and although there were several falls in March, it amounted
to very little.
February and March were brighter with about average sunshine and
temperatures. Clear skies meant there were more ground frosts during
these 2 months, but they were not very severe.
Spring set in in the second week of April when temperatures soared
and the sun shone through after a period of overcast skies. The month
had average rainfall due to 2 very wet days towards the end of the month.
The mainly bright weather continued well into May giving several
night ground frosts, but there was only one report of a thunder storm.
The wet weather which ended the month continued to damp down
flaming June, which turned out to be very disappointing with tempera-
tures well below average. Although it did get warmer towards the end it
remained unsettled.
July was a wonderful month with sunshine recorded on every single
day. The hottest July for over 10 years in many places. August was
generally average, sunny and warm after some rather dull mornings.
This type of weather continued through September to make the month
a very pleasant one. It was also very dry, apart from one or two thundery
showers.
October started and finished warm and sunny, but for a week in the
middle the rainfall was greater than the monthly average. Sunny weather
also predominated in November although the mornings were often frosty
with some fog.
The year ended rather dull, December being very like January.
