WEATHER REPORT FOR 1961

 
         JANUARY
         A consistently cold month, but lack of snow was unusual. Thunder
         on 31st. Rainfall above average.
         
         FEBRUARY
         Exceptionally mild month. Rainfall above average. No snow and little
         frost.
         MARCH
         An unusually dry month. Many warm, sunny days, with high
         temperatures, but a certain amount of frost at night.
         
         APRIL
         Rainfall was above average--and there was very little sunshine.
         A disappointing month after such a pleasant March.
         
         MAY
         A sunny, but cold month. Dry, but keen and persistent winds from
         the North.
         
         JUNE
         A lovely month with temperatures above average and rainfall below.
         Very sunny--but occasional cool winds.
         
         JULY
         Mainly dry--with some very hot days--but on the whole the tempera-
         tures were below average. A number of thunderstorms.
         
         AUGUST
         Mainly unsettled with frequent rain. Some high temperatures at
         the end of the month.
         
         SEPTEMBER
         Fairly warm, but not very sunny--Some strong winds in middle of
         month, associated with 2 West Indian hurricanes--Hurricane Betsy and
         Hurricane Debbie. Rainfall below average.
         
         OCTOBER
         A mild month, rainfall average, sunshine above average. Again a lot
         of high winds.
         
         NOVEMBER
         Sunny and dry: little fog but a fair amount of frost.
         
         DECEMBER
         A very cold month, especially the last 2 weeks. Rainfall was heavy
         during the first half--and there were more than the average number of
         frosty days and nights. Very heavy snowfalls during last 3 days.
