WEATHER REPORT FOR 1958

 
JANUARY.
    A rather wet, cold month. Rain occurred on 30 days at Kettering,
though only on 10 did the amount exceed 0.04". The highest almount
in any one day was 0.91" at both Kettering and Tichmarsh (on 28th).
Snow fell on 20th, 22nd and 23rd (Little Houghton).
FEBBUARY.
    A very changeable month. Snow on 8th, 24th and 25th. 98"
rain at Nortllampton on 24th, which had 21 rainy days, 15 of them
having over 0.04".
MARCH
    A very treacherous month. Snow recorded for 6th to 12th and
l9th and 20th. Rainfall about average with a dry spell between 10th
and 23rd.
APRIL .
    The driest month of the year, on only 4 days did amounts over 0.04"
occur. On 25th 0.68" recorded from Braunston, but in most of the
County it did not exceed half that amount.
MAY.
    Hot at commencement, 76.0 on 2nd and 77.0 at Wellingborough.
Rainfall about average. Rather cold in latter part of month.
JUNE .
    A very wet, disappointing month. Rainfall about 3 times the
average. 1.30" (Kettering) on 9th; 1.24" at Tichmarsh and 1.14" at
Braunston on 26th, but Northampton only had 0.88" on this day.
JULY.
    Allother wet month. Rain fell on 16 days. 1.36" at Kettering on
1st. Hail occurred on 2nd.
AUCUST.
    A dull disappointing month with very changeable weather.
81.0 was recorded at Northampton on 10th. Rainfall still above average.
SEPTEMBER .
    A very dull month, with rain on 22 days (Kettering), though
amounts usually small.
OCTOBER.
   Dull and damp. Rain frequent though usually small in quantity.
0.60" (Wellingborough) on 2nd.
NOVEMBER.
A very mild month, with rainfall about average.
DECEMBER
Mild and wet.
GENERAL REMARKS .
    A very wet year with little sunshine. Rainfall about 4.00" above the
average, and the heaviest in recent years. There was little or no Summer
weather.
