WEATHER REPORT FOR 1946

         JANUARY.            
         Cold first few days, then mild and unsettled. Another cold spell from  
         12th to 24th, followed by very mild wet weather. Little snow. Fog on  
         20th, 21st, 22nd and 27th. S. gale on 9th, S.W. gale on 28th and 29th.  
         Rainfall 1.63" being 0.17" above average for month. At Peterborough  
         0.37" above average. Min. Temp. 16.0 on 20th, Brackley. Highest rainfall  
         in 24 hours 0.80" on 11th at Kettering.        
                       
         FEBRUARY.            
         Rather wet month with rainfall 0.43" above average at Northampton  
         and 0.40" above at Peterborough. Light snow on several days. S. W. gales
         on 2nd and 3rd with heavy rain. S. W. gale night of 7th followed by N. W.  
         gale on 8th Thunder storm 12.30 p.m. on 4th followed by W. gale. Fog  
         on 13th and 14th. Min. 17.0 on 28th, Althorp. Rain 0.48" on 2nd,  
         Northampton.            
                       
   MARCH.            
         Cold with snow on first few days, very heavy on 2nd. Then fine and  
         cold. No fog,. Rainfall 0.25" below average for month at Northampton  
         making 0.51" above average for 3 months. At Peterborough, 0.53" below  
         for month and 0.24" above for 3 months. Last 8 days fine and very warm,  
         the Max. on 29th reaching 67.0. Min. 19.0 on 9th, Duston. Rain 0.37" on  
         2nd, Peterborough.          
               
         APRIL.            
         A fine month, with rainfall 0.41" below average at Northampton and  
         0.74" below at Peterborough. Last part of month rather unsettled. No  
         fog or gales. Min 27.0 on 10th. Duston and Althorp. Rain 0.70" on 26th,  
         Althorp.            
               
         MAY.            
         A very wet month with few really fine days. Heavy thunder storm  
         on 18th when 0.40" fell in half-hour. Rainfall 0.48" above average for  
         month at Northampton and 0.44" below for five months. At Peterborough,  
         0.50" below for five months. Min. 27.0 on 15th, Duston and Althorp.  
         Rain 0.80" on l9th Grimsbury.        
               
         JUNE.            
         Another wet month with rain on 26 days. Heavy rain and W. gale on  
         10th. Very heavy rain storms on 11th. Thunder on 12th, 13th, 19th and  
         23rd. Sharp hail storm 3.30 p.m on l8th. At Northampton, rainfall  
         0.99" above for month and 0.56" above for six months. At Peterborough,  
         0.21" below for six months. Min 38.0 on 4th Althorp. Rain l.03" on 13th,  
         Althorp. Rain 1.03" on 13th, Althorp.        
                       
         JULY.            
         Fine and warm at first, with some really hot summer days from 1st to  
         15th. Heavy thunder storm with some vivid lightning, 1.00am. on 4th.  
         Rest of month rather unsettled. Rainfall 1.23" below average at North-  
         ampton and 0.60" below at Peterborough. Min. 38.0 on 17th, Althorp.  
         Rain 0.73" on 3rd, Kettering          
               
         AUGUST.            
         Wet and  miserable, with rain on 24 days. N.W. Gale on 12th. Thunder  
         Storm 4.30 p m. on 25th. At Northampton rainfall  above average for  
         month and  above average for 8 months. At Peterborough 0.57" above  
         for month and 0.27" below for 8 months. Max. 84.0 on 5th, Duston. Min.  
         36.0 on l6th, Althorp. Rain 1.14" on 9th General Hospital.    
                       
         SEPTEMBER            
         Unsettled most of the month. S.W. Gale on 20th followed by N.N.W.  
         Gale. Thunder on 5th. Fine and warm last few days. Rainfall 1.36"  
         below average for month at Northampton and 0.63" above Peterborough.  
         Max. 77.0 on 28th General Hospital. Min. 38.0 on l8th Althorp. Rain  
         1.26 on 2Oth Berrywood.          
                      
         OCTOBER .            
         A much drier month with rain on only 12 days. Rather cold with  
         frost on 24th, 28th and 29th. Rainfall 1.05" below for month and 1.23  
         above for 10 months at Northampton, and 0.64" below for month at  
         Peterborough. Max 74.0 on 3rd Ravensthorpe. Min. 24.0 on 29th, Duston.  
         Rain 0.67" on 26th, Duston.          
                       
         NOVEMBER.            
         Very wet month with rain on 24 days. Rain all day and night on  
         14th when 1.02" fell in 24 hours. Fog on 5th, 6th and l9th. N.W. Gale  
         on 18th. W. Gale on 21st. Thunder and lightning 5 a.m. on 25th.  
         Rainfall 2.72" above average for month at Northampton and 2.00" above at  
         Peterborough. Max. 67.0 on 4th, General Hospital. Min. 28.0 on 23rd,  
         Althorp, Rain 1.28" on 27th, Grimsbury.      
                       
         DECEMBER.            
         A cold unsettled month with fog on several days. Very thick fog on  
         10th and 21st. Rainfall 0.43" below averge for month at Northampton  
         and 2.29" above average for year. At Peterborough 0.34" above average  
         for month and 2.06" above for year. Max. 52.0 on 1st, Northampton.  
         Min. 1.40 on 21st, Duston. Rain 0.45 on 8th, Tichmarsh.
